North Carolina Laws on Alcohol Sales & Consumption

• Alcohol may not be sold or served to persons less than 21 years old.

• No person 18, 19, or 20 years of age is permitted within and ABC Store

• Alcohol may not be sold or served to any person who is intoxicated.

• Intoxicated persons are not allowed to consume alcoholic beverages on the licensed premises.

• Alcohol may not be purchased with food stamps.

• Persons 17 and under may be permitted if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.


Right to Refuse:

• Employees can refuse to sell alcoholic beverages to any person(s) when age or intoxication is in question.

• Employees can refuse to sell alcohol to an adult they suspect is buying for minors waiting outside.

• There is no legal recourse by a customer who has been refused sale.
